
The ballot language for a special mail-in election reflects a thorough, community-informed planning process rooted in transparency, collaboration, and a strategic focus on the future of South Sioux City Community Schools.
Extensive Community Engagement
Over the past several months, the district led a deliberate and inclusive process to gather input and shape priorities:
Facilitating Team – Over 20 district and community leaders worked together to guide the engagement process.
Community Engagement Workshops – Nearly 300 individuals participated, with many attending multiple sessions to provide ongoing feedback.
Building Tours & Open Houses – More than 80 attendees explored current facilities and gained insight into needs and challenges.
Community Surveys – Two surveys drew responses from 1,434 participants, giving voice to a broad cross-section of our community.

INSTRUCTIONS TO VOTER
The following are instructions on how to vote your ballot. Please follow these instructions precisely, otherwise, your ballot may not be counted.
1. Verify that there are initials of an election official at the bottom of the ballot.
2. Verify that there are no voting marks on the ballot.
3. Use a black ink pen to mark the ballot.
4. TO VOTE, you must darken the oval ( ) completely.
5. Do NOT cross out or erase. If you make a mistake, write "VOID" across the face of the ballot and call the Dakota County Clerk's office for instructions at (402)-987-2130.
6. Place voted ballot into the brown return envelope. Write your NE driver's license or state ID in the space provided on the envelope, or enclose a photocopy of an acceptable photo ID or Reasonable Impediment Certification (if applicable). Complete, SIGN and seal the envelope. Remember to moisten both seals to cover the voter ID and signature boxes.
7. Any person physically unable to sign the envelope must make his/her "mark" and must have an individual witness. Failure to complete and sign the Return Identification Envelope will cause the ballot to be rejected.
8. Do NOT place more than ONE (1) voted ballot into the return identification envelope.
9. Return Ballot by:
a. Hand Delivery - deliver the ballot to the office of the Election Commissioner.
b. Mail - return ballot by mail by placing proper return postage on the envelope.
c. Drop Box - Located at 1601 Broadway St, Dakota City, NE 68731
10. Ballot MUST be in the possession of the County Clerk's Office by 5:00 p.m. Central Time on May 13, 2025.
