Built by the Community, for the Community

Over the past year, our community came together to envision the future of South Sioux City’s schools. This plan is the result of months of thoughtful input, shared priorities, and collaborative work. It is not just a facilities plan—it is our community’s vision for the future of education.

Through meaningful engagement, we heard from hundreds of residents, families, and staff through:

  • Five Community Workshops

  • Building Tours

  • Two Community Surveys

Together, we identified challenges and outlined solutions. The result is a shared plan—one built by the community, for the community.

Addressing Our Needs

To provide the type of education our children deserve, we must address critical facility needs that affect safety, functionality, and long-term sustainability.

  • Our schools are safe, but security upgrades are needed to meet today’s best practices.

  • Essential systems—roofs, windows, heating and cooling, plumbing, and electrical—are outdated and require repair or replacement.

  • Postponing these improvements will only increase costs; fixing them now is the responsible and cost-effective choice.

  • Overcrowding is a growing concern. More than half of our schools are at or over capacity, making it harder for students to learn and teachers to teach.

  • Many buildings are too small, too expensive to renovate, and no longer meet the needs of 21st-century learning.

Ensuring Opportunities

Our students deserve access to the same quality of learning environments as their peers in neighboring districts.

  • Modern, well-equipped classrooms are essential for preparing students for high-skill, high-wage, and high-demand careers—or success in higher education.

  • Improving our facilities will ensure every child has access to a safe, inspiring place to learn.

  • Upgraded buildings will support innovative learning and give our children the tools they need to succeed in a competitive world.

Strengthening Our Community

Investing in our schools is an investment in the future of South Sioux City.

  • Quality schools help maintain strong property values—a benefit to all homeowners and families in our community.

  • Strong schools are a cornerstone of a strong, united community. They attract young families, support local growth, and prepare our next generation of leaders.

  • If we want our children to value and support education in the future, we must set that example today.

Let’s come together—again—to build the future our kids deserve and our community can be proud of.
